Research on Architectural Art and Sustainable Design of Ginling College Historic District (Nanjing, China)

Ginling College is the first women’s college founded by American Christian Church in Nanjing, China, early 20th century. The architectural style of school reflects orientation “Chinese localization” at that time. It a representative work revival traditional Chinese architecture. known as “Renaissance architecture” and profoundly influenced later generations. Due to its important historical status artistic value, complex has been designated government national key cultural relic protection unit China’s 20th-century heritage, scope district specially for overall protection. Currently, little research conducted on this historic area, so authors undertook project. This paper adopts combination qualitative quantitative methods research, starting from two aspects art sustainable design, analyzes detail characteristics project, structural materials obtained locally, design method utilizes natural lighting ventilation explore modern campus based concept with “combination Western art”. Through creation technological innovation, architecture realized harmonious coexistence between man nature, embodying development, promoting development region.
